How to search a device in public EUDAMED
Search the public EUDAMED register by UDI-DI, trade name, catalogue reference, or manufacturer SRN. Exact codes and fuzzy names do not work the same way.
EUDAMED search on the public site asks for at least one criterion: UDI-DI, basic UDI-DI, trade name, manufacturer, or other fields in the UDI/Devices screen. The public API behind it is narrower than the logged-in workspace. If you are automating a check, match the query to the kind of identifier you actually hold.
If you have a code
A UDI-DI is an exact lookup. Send it as the primary DI. Do not full-text search it. Spaces and punctuation that a spreadsheet added should be stripped first. The code 16977660098955 is the code, not a sentence that contains it.
An SRN is also exact, and it is a different endpoint in spirit: you are searching actors, then the devices that cite that manufacturer. SRNs look like AT-MF-000000252. Pasting an SRN into a UDI-DI box, or the reverse, returns an empty list and feels like the register is down. It is not.
A catalogue reference is a third exact-ish path. Manufacturers put their own reference next to the UDI-DI. It is useful when a tender names the reference and not the DI. It is not unique across manufacturers. Treat more than one hit as a real ambiguity.
If you have a name
Trade name search is partial and noisy. “Stent” will not return one device. “Covered CP Stent” is closer, and you still confirm the manufacturer SRN before you trust the row. The public search also has a habit of ignoring a filter that matches an absurd number of rows rather than returning a fake page. An empty result after a broad name is not always “zero devices”. It can mean the filter was refused. Check the error or the match type before you tell a colleague the device does not exist.
On this site, /d/10887714028257 is the direct device page, and GET /v1/search?q= tries UDI-DI, then SRN, then trade name, then reference, in that order. The response includes match so you can see which path hit. The search section of the API docs has the JSON.
What search does not do
It does not walk every historical version unless you ask for that in the official UI. It does not download the full public catalogue. It does not search vigilance or clinical investigations. And a successful search is a point in time. If you need the status next quarter, store the identifier and watch it. Repeating the same manual search is how a status change sits in the register for a month before anyone notices.
